Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee pasture and grazing systems, optimizing forage production and utilization for small ruminant livestock.
  • Planning and implementing strategies to ensure pasture health and productivity.
  • Monitoring pasture health, implementing weed control and soil fertility improvement measures, and coordinating rotational grazing schedules for optimal forage utilization and animal health.
  • Collaborate with the farm manager and director to develop and implement livestock and pasture management plans.
  • Utilize your expertise as an Assistant Farm Manager.
  • Supervise pasture maintenance activities, including mowing, seeding, and irrigation.
  • Coordinate livestock forage utilization.
  • Support the farm manager in daily caring for and managing small ruminant livestock.
  • Assist with feeding and watering animals according to their nutritional requirements.
  • Monitor and observe livestock for signs of illness, injury, or distress.
  • Assist with routine health checks, vaccinations, and treatments as directed.
  • Assist the manager in managing the breeding and reproduction program for the small ruminant herd.
  • Assist with estrus detection, artificial insemination, or natural mating processes.
  • Monitor and record breeding records, including mating dates and pregnancy status.
  • Collaborate with the manager to develop and implement a breeding strategy to achieve desired genetic traits and production goals.
  • Provide support to the manager in monitoring and managing overall herd health and performance.
  • Assist with regular herd inspections, body condition scoring, and weight monitoring.
  • Assist with data collection and record-keeping related to animal performance, growth rates, and production metrics.
  • Collaborate with the manager to identify and address any health or nutritional issues within the herd.
  • Assist with implementing herd health protocols, including vaccination programs and parasite control measures.


Requirements:

  • Minimum academic qualification of OND/HND/BSc in Crop Science, Agriculture, Animal Science, or equivalent.
  • Passion for agriculture and willingness to work hands-on is required.
  • Extensive experience in a farming-related field.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills.


Renumeration: NGN 65,000
monthly.
